     What is a transfer site/facility?

A transit transfer site/facility is a station or transit hub where GVT buses, services and routes come together, making it easy for passengers to travel all over the Grand Valley.

What is the time line for the project application, public comment, and review process?
What kind of activity does a transfer site see?

Currently, four buses arrive at the Mesa Mall transfer site at the scheduled time each hour. Riders can transfer to another bus or walk to their nearby destinations. These four buses then depart after approximately 5 minutes. The transfer site is generally empty until the next hourly transfer time approaches.

What will the proposed transfer site look like?
Where is the proposed transfer site/facility and how was it selected?

The proposed transfer site/facility is located at 612 24 ½ Road, Grand Junction, CO 81505.   The current site, at nearby Mesa Mall, must move elsewhere to allow for future use of the mall property.

The following criteria were followed in selecting the new site:

    • Adequate Size and Shape: The site must be adequate to accommodate the minimum space requirements for buses and passengers, plus some future expansion.
    • Access: The site must allow easy access to travel corridors and to major streets that access Fruita, Clifton and the downtown transit center.
    • Environmental Constraints: Any known or observable environmental issues must be considered.
    • Proximity to Mesa Mall: The proximity to the mall should be within a reasonable walking distance from the transfer site, should people choose to walk from the bus.
    • Timing: The transit center must be located within the Mesa Mall area.  This is to ensure that routes can operate within designated running times to support a 60-minute pulse system.
